Teen Patti Probability: Exact Odds for Every Hand
Quick answer: From a 52-card deck there are 22,100 possible three-card hands. A trail appears 0.24% of the time, a pure sequence 0.22%, a sequence 3.26%, a colour 4.96%, a pair 16.94% and a high card 74.39%. In other words, about three hands in four are just high cards, which is why a pair is often strong enough to win at a small table.
How we calculated these numbers
We generated every possible three-card combination (52 × 51 × 50 ÷ 6 = 22,100) and classified each one using standard Teen Patti rules, counting A-K-Q and A-2-3 as sequences. This is exact counting, not estimation.
Probability of each hand
| Hand | Ways | Probability | About one in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trail | 52 | 0.235% | 425 deals |
| Pure sequence | 48 | 0.217% | 460 deals |
| Sequence | 720 | 3.258% | 31 deals |
| Colour | 1,096 | 4.959% | 20 deals |
| Pair | 3,744 | 16.941% | 6 deals |
| High card | 16,440 | 74.389% | 1.3 deals |
The chance of being dealt a pair or better is 25.6%.
How strong is your hand against other players?
We also ran simulations, dealing random hands to opponents from the remaining cards, to see how often a hand is the best at the table. The figures below are rounded estimates from 20,000 deals each.
| Your hand | vs 1 opponent | vs 2 | vs 3 | vs 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A-K-J high card | 74% | 55% | 41% | 23% |
| Pair of 2s | 74% | 55% | 40% | 22% |
| Pair of 7s | 82% | 67% | 55% | 36% |
| Pair of aces | 91% | 83% | 76% | 63% |
| Colour A-K-J | 96% | 92% | 89% | 82% |
| Sequence 4-3-2 | 96% | 93% | 89% | 83% |
What this tells you
- Table size changes everything. A pair of 7s is the best hand most of the time against one opponent, but only about a third of the time against five.
- A-K high is about as strong as a low pair against one opponent, because so many hands are high cards.
- Any sequence or colour is strong at almost every table size.
These numbers describe dealt hands only. In a real round, players fold, play blind and bluff, which changes who reaches the showdown. Our strategy guide shows how to use the numbers sensibly, and our odds vs opponents page goes further.
