Teen Patti Hand Rankings: Full Chart from Trail to High Card
Quick answer: Teen Patti hands rank from highest to lowest as: Trail (three of a kind), Pure sequence (straight flush), Sequence (straight), Colour (flush), Pair, and High card. A-A-A is the best possible hand. Within each category, higher cards win. The order is fixed in standard play, but variants such as Muflis reverse it, so always check the table rules.
The six hand categories
| Rank | Hand | Example | Number of ways | Chance per deal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trail (set) | A-A-A | 52 | 0.24% |
| 2 | Pure sequence | Q-K-A all hearts | 48 | 0.22% |
| 3 | Sequence (run) | 4-5-6 mixed suits | 720 | 3.26% |
| 4 | Colour (flush) | 2-7-J all spades | 1,096 | 4.96% |
| 5 | Pair | 9-9-K | 3,744 | 16.94% |
| 6 | High card | A-10-6 mixed | 16,440 | 74.39% |
We calculated these counts ourselves by checking all 22,100 possible three-card hands from a 52-card deck. You can see the full method on our probability page.
Why the order differs from poker
In five-card poker a flush beats a straight. In Teen Patti it is the reverse: a sequence beats a colour. The reason is simple arithmetic. With three cards, there are 1,096 colour hands but only 720 sequences, so a sequence is rarer and ranks higher. One exception is tradition rather than maths: a trail outranks a pure sequence even though there are slightly more trails (52) than pure sequences (48) when A-K-Q and A-2-3 are both counted. Our colour vs sequence page explains this in detail.
Ranking inside each category
- Trail: A-A-A is highest, then K-K-K, down to 2-2-2. See trail rules.
- Pure sequence and sequence: A-K-Q is highest. Most apps rank A-2-3 second, followed by K-Q-J and down to 4-3-2. Some house rules treat A-2-3 as the lowest run. Check our sequence list.
- Colour: compare the highest card, then the second, then the third.
- Pair: the higher pair wins; if pairs match, the odd card (kicker) decides. See pair rules.
- High card: compare highest, then second, then third. See high card rules.
Suits do not usually matter
In standard Teen Patti, suits have no ranking. If two hands are exactly equal, such as A-K-9 against A-K-9 in different suits, many apps split the pot or give it to the player who did not ask for the show. Our tie rules cover the common methods.
Quick memory trick
Think “Three, Pure, Run, Colour, Pair, High”. Or remember that each step down the list happens more often: trails are the rarest and high cards are the most common.
Frequently asked questions
What is the highest hand in Teen Patti?
A-A-A, a trail of aces.
Does a sequence beat a colour?
Yes. A sequence is rarer than a colour with three cards, so it ranks higher.
Is A-2-3 a high or low sequence?
In most apps it is the second-highest sequence after A-K-Q, but some house rules make it the lowest. Agree before playing.
