999 Teen Patti: Rules for the Closest-to-999 Game
Quick answer: In the 999 variation, normal hand rankings are replaced by numbers. In the version most commonly described, each card counts as a single digit (ace = 1, 2 to 9 at face value, 10 and picture cards = 0), and the player whose cards make the number closest to 999 wins. The best possible hand is 9-9-9. Local versions differ, so check the rules before you play.
Card values
| Card | Value |
|---|---|
| Ace | 1 |
| 2 to 9 | Face value |
| 10, J, Q, K | 0 |
Forming the number
Arrange your three digits from highest to lowest to make the biggest number you can. That number is your score. Because digits cannot exceed 9, the biggest arrangement is always the closest to 999.
Examples
| Hand | Digits | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 9-9-9 | 9, 9, 9 | 999 |
| 9-8-K | 9, 8, 0 | 980 |
| 7-7-A | 7, 7, 1 | 771 |
| J-Q-K | 0, 0, 0 | 000 |
| 9-2-5 | 9, 5, 2 | 952 |
Local variations
- Some groups make all 9s and 6s wild.
- Some count the total of the cards instead of forming a number.
- Apps may use their own scoring. Always read the table rules.
Strategy
Nines are everything. A hand with two nines is very strong; a hand with no card above 6 is weak. Suits and runs do not matter under the common scoring.
