Andar Bahar Rules: How the Traditional Card Game Works
Quick answer: Andar Bahar is a traditional Indian card game. A dealer places one card face up in the middle (often called the joker or game card), then deals cards alternately to two piles, “Andar” (inside) and “Bahar” (outside). The side that first receives a card of the same rank as the middle card wins. There are no choices after the bet, so it is a game of chance.
How a round works
- Choose Andar or Bahar.
- The dealer reveals the middle card, for example a 7.
- Cards are dealt one at a time to alternating sides.
- The first side to get another 7 wins.
Who gets the first card?
In many versions, the first card goes to the side opposite the middle card’s colour, or to a fixed side. The side that receives the first card has a slightly higher chance of winning, so some versions pay that side slightly less to compensate.
Side bets
Apps often add bets on how many cards will be dealt before a match. These usually carry a larger house edge.
No strategy can change the result
The order of cards is random. Watching past rounds does not help, and any “prediction” seller is offering something impossible. See our scam warning signs.

Names like “3 Patti Andar Bahar” or “Andar Bahar Patti” describe apps that bundle both games. Check each app’s terms and legal position before using it; see our legal explainer.
